A forum has been arranged to discuss ways to contribute to economic growth and expand economic participation of women through the use of smart technology by female companies.

Sookmyung Women's University's APWINC (director Kim Myung-hee) hosted a seminar on capacity enhancement for APEC women's companies using smart technologies on June 28 a part of the 2016 APEC Women's Economic Conference on Women and Economy in Lima, Peru.

The APEC Women's Economic Conference was established in 1989 to promote economic balance and stable growth in the Asia-Pacific region. More than 500 government representatives from 21 member countries of the Asia-Pacific region, including the United States, Australia, China, Indonesia and Singapore, as well as officials from related international organizations and women businessmen attended the event.

The main agenda of the year was Breaking Barriers to Economic Integration of Women in the Global Market. Various officials from the government and business academia, including Gender Equality and Family Minister Kang Eun-hee, South Korean Ambassador to Peru Jang Keun-ho, Peruvian Women's Vulnerable Population Minister Marcela Huaita, Fernando Bolanos Galdos Peru's Deputy Minister for the Women's Vulnerable Population, attended.

The main contents of the seminar included the latest smart technologies (3D printing, big data, Internet of Things, etc.)that can be applied to women's business activities, the trend and vision sharing, the introduction of industry-specific IT convergence and market prospects, the sharing of industry-specific success models and cases through IT convergence, and the creation of infrastructure and development directions for smart technology application. By doing so, they have enhanced Korea's status as a smart technology leader by strengthening the global capabilities of Korean women companies and sharing outstanding domestic practices.

APWINC, which hosted the seminar, has held seminars at the APEC Women's Economic Conference every year since 2005, and has continued efforts to encourage women to participate in the digital economy in the APEC region.
