Sookmyung Women's University (President Hwang Seon-hye) and Handong University (President Jang Soon-heung) held a seminar[Joint Seminar of UNESCO UNITWIN Hosted Universities-(Note: The role and cooperation of higher education institutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) efficiently.)] on May 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the first seminar room of the National Assembly building.
The event began with a opening speech by Sookmyung Women's University President Hwang seon-hye and Handong University President Jang Soon-heung and with a congratulatory speech by Member of the National Assembly Lee Myung-soo and Do Jong-hwan.
The UNESCO Untwin project aims to strengthen the capacity of institutions of higher learning through exchange of knowledge sharing and research by forming networks among institutions of higher learning around the world.
Sookmyung Women's University's Unitwin project is an international development cooperation project in education for "enhancing women's competence through ICT and leadership education." This year, the first year, it will be conducted on Indonesia and the University of Life in Cambodia.
In her opening speech, Sookmyung Women's University President Hwang seon-hye stressed the importance of fostering, developing and cooperating with women and said, "We will faithfully play the role of Sookmyung Women's University as a hub of women's leadership education based on our long experience and knowledge so that the Untwin project can achieve international development objectives through inter-college cooperation."
The event was organized to share the contents and know-how of cooperation with higher education institutions in developing countries over the past seven years, the announcement of Sookmyung Women's University's business plan to UNESCO UNITWIN University, the presentation of directions for participation in international development cooperation projects through education of Korean universities in the future, participation in UNESCO UNITWIN projects, and promotion of the effectiveness of education personnel in developing countries.
In the pre-discussion issue, the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, each university and UNESCO Unitwin Project will be introduced, and the announcement of the participation of key figures in developing countries and the role of the project in developing countries will be introduced. It is expected to provide useful information to participants by discussing the direction of the project to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals after issue.
A number of developing countries, including the Ethiopian Embassy's Mespin Mideca Corporation, Cambodia's National Women's Committee Secretary-General Bisna Bunchikuni and Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Education Elah Yulawawati, are expected to participate in this presentation and evaluation meeting to discuss enhancing capabilities in the education sector through UNESCO UNITWIN.
