UNESCO's Untwin program was established in 1992. The purpose of the project is to help universities and research institutes in developing countries by networking with universities in developing countries to reduce the knowledge gap and develop self-reliance capabilities. In 2007, Handong University was designated as Korea's first Untwin university, followed by Sookmyung Women's University in 2014 and Korea Broadcasting and Communications University in 2017.
Handong Units' Twin project is implemented as part of the Ministry of Education's ODA project. We have concluded agreements with universities in developing countries that are subject to government-designated key cooperation, centering on low-income countries categorized by the World Bank, and have promoted university capacity building, leadership development projects, and regional development projects.
