As a part of the 2013 ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Project ‘Strategy for ASEAN Women’s Socioeconomic Empowerment through ICT Literacy and Leadership Education’, Asia Pacific Women’s Information Network Center (APWINC, Director Myonghee Kim, Ph. D) organized a workshop on “Strengthening Library as a Platform for ASEAN Women’s ICT Literacy Education”. Co-supported by ASEAN and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Republic of Korea, the workshop was held from 21st February to 27th February 2016 with the participation of 18 experts in the field of information/library from 10 ASEAN member states (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam).
Composed of various lectures, discussions, and field trips, the workshop had the objectives of developing participants’ capacity of library usage/management and raising their awareness of women leadership to enhance ASEAN women’s digital literacy and their socioeconomic status. At the end of the workshop, each country’s representatives devised customized Action Plans for the local women’s ICT and leadership skill improvement. After evaluation and selection of those, APWINC will later launch an on-site training program.
