Asia Pacific Women’s Information Network Center at Sookmyung Women’s University, Republic of Korea (Director Myonghee Kim, Ph. D) is currently implementing the “WIDI Development and Management Workshop for ASEAN Experts” as a part of the 2013 ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Project, ‘Strategy for ASEAN Women’s Socioeconomic Empowerment through ICT Literacy and Leadership Education’. The workshop is co-supported by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Republic of Korea, and hosted by Asia Pacific Women’s Information Network Center (APWINC) of Sookmyung Women’s University. This will be held from 22nd November to 28th November, 2015 in Seoul, Korea.
In this workshop, 12 ASEAN member states’ government officials and researchers representing Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam in the field of gender and statistics are gathered here in Seoul to develop an international index customized to measure the level of ASEAN women’s ICT development and to secure continuous measuring and managing of WIDI. This workshop particularly aims: 1) to discuss appropriate ICT indices which are measurable in each ASEAN member states and 2) to plan ways to enrich the gender data in ASEAN member states for bridging the gender digital divide. APWINC and the representative of 6 ASEAN member states wish that this workshop will contribute to the level of ASEAN women’s ICT literacy competencies as well as empowering their rights in the knowledge-information society.
